Measurement Devices Ltd (MDL) is a world leader in laser measurement technology and positioning and navigation systems.

Technical Sales / Canada

MDL (Canada) wish to recruit an experienced and ambitious technical sales person to help MDL expand its presence in Canada. The person would be based in the Calgary area and be responsible for the western region of Canada, and assist elsewhere in Canada as required. MDL's product offerings include mobile LiDAR mapping systems, robotic 3D laser scanners for underground mining and Laser GIS Systems.

Reporting to our Manotick (Ottawa) office, duties would include: direct sales and marketing, customer visits, bid preparation and equipment demonstrations.

Candidates would hold a degree in surveying / geomatics, have a proven sales track record and be available to travel extensively. Knowledge of the mining industry, current LiDAR systems, GNSS and point cloud data processing, would be an advantage.

Production Support Surveyor

Main purpose of job:
The production facility in York is a niche manufacturing unit and MDL has built a reputation for high quality design and manufacturing tailored to client's product and user requirements.

The position calls for a reliable, energetic person with surveying experience, preferably with experience of either onshore or offshore surveying and its associated acquisition software. QPS QINSy software experience is desirable along with an ability to work closely with other members of the production team, as well as individually. Laser scanning experience would also prove useful in this position, as the requirement is to calibrate new MDL laser scanning equipment prior to being sold to the customer.

Main responsibilties: 
The main responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to;

  • Setting up RTK GNSS equipment (base station and mobile).
  • Performing calibrations of MDL mobile laser scanning equipment, under controlled conditions.
  • Processing the acquired data in the field and back in the office.
  • Recording the calibration data and sharing the data between appropriate MDL departments.
  • Quality checking and quality assurance responsibilities and recording results.
  • Testing new methodology in performing calibration exercises.
  • Use of other laser scanning equipment and software for comparison purposes (e.g. static laser scanner).

Provide support to other MDL departments and or offices.

Education / qualifications / training:

  • Degree in surveying or related discipline
  • Reliable and conscientious with a ‘can-do' attitude.
  • Preferably with previous survey / GIS experience, and with a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Familiar with survey acquisition and processing software.
  • Familiar with GNSS technology and handling point cloud data.
  • Some experience of working with laser scanning systems would be an advantage.
  • Must have a valid clean UK driving licence.
  • Appreciates the need for consistency within Company's products and quality standards.
  • Must be very computer literate and adept in the use of MS Office, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint, Internet and email.
  • Must be a competent communicator.
  • Must be analytical and results oriented with a positive outlook and clear focus.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain best working practice at all times in line with company policy.
  • Good commercial acumen with an enthusiastic and flexible working attitude.
  • Must be sufficiently mobile and flexible to travel, if required.
  • Able to commute reliably to the York office location.

Field Technical Support Engineers

MDL wish to recruit a number of ‘Field Technical Support Engineers'. Primary base will be York England.

Candidates will be expected to travel world wide at short notice on projects of varying duration. Duties will include the maintenance, calibration and field operation of MDL's Dynascan mobile LiDAR systems and other laser scanning equipment from time to time.

Candidates should have a degree in electronics (or equivalent) a willingness to learn new skills and be highly computer literate.

A clean driving license and passport are fundamental.

Preference will be given to candidates experienced in mobile LiDAR and electronic survey equipment maintenance.

Surveyor

MDL is looking to recruit a permanent Surveyor to join our busy sales and operations team in York.

We require a professional, highly motivated person to assist in operations and in promoting MDL's Land and marine products around the world. You will provide technical support to existing customers and users of MDL equipment.

Requirements/Education/Qualifications/Training :

  • Degree in Surveying, preferably with at least five years experience.
  • Ideally with some experience of laser scanners, point clouds and GPS technology.
  • Must be computer literate and adept in the use of MS Office and able to quickly pick up new software packages for manipulation of laser scanned data & simple survey routines.
  • Must have a valid clean local driving licence.
  • Hold a valid passport. The post will involve significant amounts of global travel, with on-site work in harsh conditions.

Surveyors / Technical Sales

Experienced, qualified and Motivated Surveyors required to join our Mobile Mapping Sales Teams in Houston Texas, York England and Melbourne Australia.

Based in Houston, York or Melbourne you will be tasked to sell, demonstrate and provide "first level" technical sales support to MDL's expanding customer base for "Dynascan" our Class leading Mobile Mapping System.

You will travel extensively assisting our dealers, customers and occasionally becoming involved in Service Projects. Occasional visits to overseas locations for training and trade shows to be expected.

A proven track record in technical Sales, thorough knowledge of the Laser Scanning and Lidar markets, software and applications is required . A clean driving license and Passport essential.

Detailed knowledge of QPS software, GNSS equipment and International Coordinate Reference Systems an advantage

Senior Field Systems Engineer – LIDAR - based in Houston Texas

MDL LLC wish to recruit a senior , experienced systems engineer/s to work with our expanding Mobile Lidar mapping group based in the Houston / Katy area of Texas.

Particular experience in the calibration, testing, repair and operation of mobile mapping systems, GNSS and Inertial equipment would be an advantage.

Travel throughout the Americas and beyond will be required as will a clean driver's license and passport.
